Table 6.1 shows some of the practices that are good to keep in mind while the process is going on.

CONCLUSION

Your students have now completed a very challenging and stimulating section of the QFT. They engaged deeply in thinking about the value and relative importance of all the questions they asked. They are stimulated by what they have figured out and by the similarities and differences between their questions and those they hear from other groups. They are eager to move on to the next steps: How are we going to use these questions? That’s exactly where we are going in the next chapter.

Key Points

• The ability to prioritize is an essential learning skill as well as life skill.

• Students prioritize their questions based on criteria the teacher establishes.

• Students will learn from each other as they discuss and debate which questions should be the priority ones.

• Teachers should monitor group work, but should be careful not to model or give too much direction for the selection of the priority questions.

• To reinforce their ability to prioritize, students need to provide a rationale for why they chose their priority questions.
